Emergency units were dispatched to Bells Place to put out a structure fire Sunday, Dec. 23 shortly after 6 p.m. Upon arriving, Engine Company 22 showed visible smoke and confirmed other signs of a working fire. An investigation revealed that the fire had started in the basement of the end unit in a six-unit building and had also extended into the adjacent unit.

Though nobody was injured, Red Cross was requested to the scene to help the 24 residents who were displaced. The Danbury Fire Marshal’s office responded to the scene as well and is currently investigating the cause of the fire.

Units were still picking up from the Bells Place fire when they were sent to the area of Lake Ave for a restaurant fire. Engine Company 23 was first on the scene, discovering heavy smoke billowing from China Wall restaurant and confirming a fire. The companies reconvened at the restaurant to put out the fire. The Danbury Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire. The restaurant’s owner was taken to Danbury Hospital Center and treated for a minor burn.

“It’s nights like this that make us all realize how hard our dedicated first responders and City Departments work to keep our city safe,” City of Danbury Fire Department Communications Coordinator James A. Gagliardo wrote in a press release. “This evening was a true reflection of the teamwork from our career and volunteer fire divisions, Danbury Police, Danbury Hospital EMS, City of Danbury Building, Electrical, Heath, Water and Public work departments. Every agency quickly pulled together to keep damage to a minimum and assist our residence in a time of need.”
